Barry Takes First Of Three Game Series From Tampa
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team (25-9, 12-5 SSC) fell to Barry University (28-16, 12-7 SSC) by a score of 3-0 in the first of a three-game series in Sunshine State Conference play.
The Spartans struggled with Bucs pitcher Amber Jack (19-9) as she allowed only two hits all game, both of which were in the seventh inning. Barry collected a pair of runs in the fourth inning and one more in the sixth inning to clinch the shutout victory.
Deanna Henriott (16-7) went 5.1 innings of play striking out seven Bucs. She kept BU on their heels for the first three innings of play allowing no hits.
The Spartan offense was kept at bay until the seventh inning when senior Michele Horan singled and held back Jack from getting her fifth career no-hitter. Becky Vyzas captured the other hit for the Spartans.
