Becky Vyzas Gives Tampa Walk-Off Victory Over #23 Nova Southeastern
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (16-3, 4-0 SSC) softball team registered a come-from-behind victory as Becky Vyzas connected on a two run walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Spartans a 3-2 win over No. 23 Nova Southeastern (29-8, 4-3 SSC) in a Sunshine State Conference game.
The Sharks scored both of their runs with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning. The Spartans responded with a run in the bottom of the first. The next five innings were scoreless as the game became a pitchers battle between UT's Deanna Henriott and Nova's Lexi Serradet.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, UT's Michele Horan's hustle earned her an infield hit as the next batter, Kallan Casey, reached on an error. Vyzas, a freshman from Tampa, then smacked a double to right center that went to the wall, scoring both Spartans.
Henriott moved to 10-2 on the season as she registered the complete game for the Spartans. In seven innings, Henriott allowed just five hits and no earned runs. She finished with six strikeouts.
The same two teams are back in action on Saturday in a 1 p.m., doubleheader. Tampa will offer live stats and a free webcast through www.tampaspartans.com. Fans may also sign up for eScores, which is a free service that sends text message alerts to fans at the conclusion of UT athletic events.
