Win Streak Extended To Nine As UT Sweeps Pair
CLERMONT, Fla. - The University of Tampa (12-2) softball team added a pair of victories to stretch its winning streak to nine games with victories over Ohio Valley and West Virginia Wesleyan at the National Training Center Complex in Clermont. In game one, UT topped Ohio Valley (2-4) by a score of 7-3, followed by a 4-1 win against West Virginia Wesleyan (10-8).
Freshman Becky Vyzas was a perfect 3-3 against OVU, as she also scored two runs and drove in one. Michele Horan added three hits while Jessica Tejas, Ashley Arcuri and Samantha Becker each tallied two hits. Tejas smacked two home runs while driving in four runs to lead Tampa.
Heather Van Landingham started for Tampa, going five innings and striking out nine. Deanna Henriott pitched the final two innings in relief and was perfect with six strikeouts.
Horan was 2-3 against West Virginia Wesleyan as Vyzas, Tejas and Arcuri each drove in a run. Henriott hurled a complete game, striking out nine in seven innings.
Tampa plays a pair of games on Sunday at Clermont as it faces American International and West Liberty State at 11 a.m., and 1 p.m.
