Deanna Henriott Throws No-Hitter to Lead Spartans to Doubleheader Sweep of Eckerd

TAMPA, Fla. - The 20th ranked University of Tampa softball team completed its series with a sweep of the visiting Eckerd College Tritons. In game one the Spartans won 4-1 and finished the nightcap with a 12-4 win. The win moves UT to 18-5 on the year and 5-1 in the SSC while Eckerd drops to 5-21 and 2-4 in league play.
Freshman standout Deanna Henriott had the spotlight once again for the Spartans as she threw the sixth no-hitter in school history, the first of her young career. Henriott struck out 10 batters, while allowing one unearned run.
Also in game one, Tampa tied a pair of school records as the Spartans combined four triples. Shortstop Michelle Horan tied the single-game school record with two. Ashley Arcuri and Jessica Tejas also had triples as well.
In game two, Tampa started out on top with a triple by Jessica Keefe followed by a Tejas walk. Senior catcher Brandi Blout singled driving home both Keefe and Tejas collecting two RBI and putting the Spartans up two nil.
The Spartans ran into trouble into the third as it allowed Eckerd to take a brief 4-2 lead. A four-run bottom half of the inning put UT on top for good as it added four in the sixth to end the game.
Henriott entered in game two to earn the victory as she threw 3.1 innings of scoreless ball. She also struck out seven while yielding just two hits to improve her to 13-3 on the season.
The Spartans are back in action Tuesday, March 11, where they will take on Bryant College in a double-header with the first pitch slated for 6 p.m.
