Spartans Selected Sixth In Preseason SSC Softball Poll

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Tampa softball team has been chosen to finish sixth in the 2007 Preseason Sunshine State Conference poll, as announced Friday by Commissioner Michael Marcil. Florida Southern received 17 of 18 first-place votes in the poll that was conducted among the league's head softball coaches and sports information directors.

Coming off a disappointing 19-31 season, head coach Leslie Kanter returns seven of nine starters in the field as well as top pitcher Devlin Dougherty, who pitched two no-hitters last season. A top recruiting class including three transfers is also expected to improve the Spartans.
