Tampa Moves Up Six Spots in Women’s Cross Country Poll
NEW ORLEANS - The University of Tampa women's cross country team is ranked No. 15 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll after opening the season at No. 21.
The six-time defending NCAA South Region champions are also No. 1 in the region. The top three teams in the region will earn an invitation to the 2014 NCAA Championships and will ultimately be determined at the 2013 South Regional, which UT is hosting at Dover Trails on Nov. 9.
Tampa has won a pair of team titles at both races in 2013, winning the USF Open and UF Mountain Dew Invitational. In both races, junior Courtney Ragan was the top performer for head coach Jarrett Slaven's Spartans.
UT returns to action on Friday, Sept. 27 at the UT Pre-Regional at Dover Trails.
The Spartans have now been nationally ranked for a stretch of 69 consecutive weeks, marking the most in program history. Tampa has also been represented in the national top-25 for seven straight years. The top overall ranking in program history was No. 7 in the 2008 season.
