School Records Set by William Poe and 4x100 Relay for Men's Track
TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's track team turned in a strong performance at the 2026 South Florida Invitational, held April 10–11 at the USF Track & Field Stadium, highlighted by a school record, multiple podium finishes, and solid depth across distance and sprint events.
The meet's top Spartan moment came in the 3,000‑meter steeplechase, where William Poe delivered a standout effort, finishing second overall in 9:19.0 to set a new school record. Poe led a strong Tampa showing in the event, as Hayden Reich placed fifth (9:41.2) and Declan Fiorucci followed closely in sixth (9:41.7), giving UT three top‑six finishes against a competitive field.
Tampa also found success in the middle distances, highlighted by Elijiah Rivera's runner‑up finish in the 1,500 meters, where he crossed the line in 3:52.1. The Spartans added depth in the event with Will Cerrutti (6th, 3:57.5), Xavier England (12th, 3:59.9), and Aidan Carroll (18th, 4:06.7) all competing.
On the sprint side, the Spartans delivered a historic performance in the 4x100‑meter relay, as the quartet of Collin Kavulic, Jacob Khashou, Jayden Leonard, and Calvin Jordan finished sixth overall in 40.98, establishing a new school record. Tampa also capped the meet with a strong showing in the 4x400‑meter relay, placing second in 3:22.1 behind a fast South Carolina State squad.
Tampa rounded out the weekend with consistent individual efforts across multiple events, including Josh Hindman's 16th‑place finish in the 800 meters (1:54.7) and solid sprint performances from Khashou and Jordan in the 100 meters and 200 meters.
Top Tampa Performers
3,000m Steeplechase:
In the men's 3,000‑meter steeplechase, William Poe led Tampa with a school‑record time of 9:19.0, placing second overall. Hayden Reich (5th) and Declan Fiorucci (6th) also finished inside the top six.
1,500 Meters:
In the men's 1,500 meters, Elijiah Rivera paced the Spartans with a runner‑up finish in 3:52.1, followed by Will Cerrutti (6th) and Xavier England (12th).
800 Meters:
In the men's 800 meters, Josh Hindman was Tampa's top finisher, placing 16th in 1:54.7.
4x100m Relay:
In the men's 4x100‑meter relay, Tampa's A team (Kavulic–Khashou–Leonard–Jordan) finished sixth in 40.98, setting a new school record.
4x400m Relay:
In the men's 4x400‑meter relay, Tampa's quartet posted a second‑place finish in 3:22.1. The Spartans runners included Kavulic, Khashou, Leonard, and Jordan.
