Men's Swimming Opens Season at Florida State Invite
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's swimming team made a strong showing at the FSU Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday, competing against a field featuring Florida State, Purdue, West Virginia, and Rice. The Spartans delivered several standout swims across both individual and relay events.
Top Relays
- 200 Medley Relay: Tampa's A-team of Rufus Bernhardt, River Streefland, Tibor Tistan, and Riccardo Pandin finished 3rd in 1:27.28, edging out West Virginia.
- 100 Free Relay: The Spartans placed 3rd with a time of 36.97, courtesy of Tistan, William Beckstead-Holman, Pandin, and Owen McLaughlin.
- 100 Medley Relay: Bernhardt, Streefland, Beckstead-Holman, and Tistan combined for another 3rd-place finish in 39.00.
- 200 Free Relay: Tampa's quartet of Tistan, Pandin, Elliot Weisel, and Beckstead-Holman secured 3rd in 1:21.84.
Top Individuals
- 200 Free: Jacob Hamlin captured Tampa's only individual win of the meet, taking 1st in 1:36.34. Elliot Weisel added a 7th-place finish (1:39.91).
- 50 Breast: River Streefland clocked 24.61 for 2nd place, narrowly behind FSU's Marcos Egri-Martin. Owen McLaughlin added a 7th-place finish (25.63).
- 400 IM: Freshman Nick Cavic swam to 3rd in 3:57.60, while Mathias Holmann placed 8th (4:05.55).
- 100 Fly: McLaughlin (7th, 49.57) and Roberto Zarate (8th, 49.63) both reached the final.
- 50 Free: Tistan placed 5th in 20.19, with Pandin 8th in 21.77.
- 200 Breast: Britton Spann was 4th in 2:00.64, while Streefland followed in 7th (2:04.98).
- 100 Back: Bernhardt took 5th (48.99) and Holmann 7th (50.63).
- 100 IM: Cavic was 5th in 51.12, and senior Beckstead-Holman finished 6th (51.42).
- 500 Free: Hamlin added another distance title, winning in 4:24.87, with Weisel close behind in 4th (4:30.51).
- 50 Fly: Tistan placed 3rd in 21.46, and McLaughlin added an 8th-place finish (22.66).
- 100 Breast: Streefland earned 4th (54.63), while Spann finished 6th (55.72).
- 200 Back: Beckstead-Holman placed 4th (1:47.79), with Holmann tying for 7th (1:49.97).
- 100 Free: Hamlin was 7th (45.59), and Pandin 8th (45.77).
- 200 Fly: Cavic continued his strong meet with a 3rd-place finish (1:47.46), and Zarate was 5th (1:50.63).
