TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 3 University of Tampa (1-0) men's soccer team weathered a two-hour rain delay to overtake the Lions (1-1) of Florida Memorial University. The Spartans used two unassisted goals from National Player of the Year candidate Pascal Milien to give Tampa its first victory of the season.
A scoreless first half saw Tampa outshoot the Lions 8-5 as the Spartans controlled much of the play. After Milien's initial goal at the 50:57 mark, the Lions' Jayson Maltez took a pass from Bernard Pierre Louis into the back of the Spartan net.
Senior goalkeeper Ryan Thompson made four saves to preserve the win while Florida Memorial's Rubiel Vazquez made eight against the Spartans' aggressive offense.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday as they visit Palm Beach Atlantic University in a 4 p.m. game. Live stats and a webcast will be available on www.tampaspartans.com.
