Spartans get Set to Host Tars in SSC Opener

Tampa, FLA-The No.7 University of Tampa Spartans welcome the Rollins College Tars to Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex Saturday, to open up Sunshine State Conference play. Tampa leads the all-time series 4-0, UT won the previous matchup last season 13-8 on the road in Winter Park.

Tampa comes into the game with a 2-1 record, after dropping a game against Defending champ Limestone College by a score of 17-6. The Spartans fell behind early but rallied late putting away three goals in the fourth period. Rollins enter the matchup at .500 with a 2-2 record. Last time out for Rollins they fell late to Catawaba 10-8 despite leading late in the fourth period.

The Spartan attack is led by the three headed monster that is Whipple, Bilak, and Vetter. Conor Whipple leads the team with eight goals, and six assists. Matt Bilak has also tallied six goals of his own including, four goals against Limestone College. Rounding out the trio is Zak Goldbach who put away five goals, and recorded three assists on the year. Nationally Tampa ranks eighth in points (58), 10th in shot percentage (.369), and 15th in assists (17) and 11th in clearing percentage (.911).

Defensively Marty Heyn leads the Spartans with nine caused turnovers, and will be looking to add to his totals. In net Andrew Failla has recorded 23 saves on the year, and posted a record of 2-1. He will look to improve both, and get UT back on track. Also on the defensive end Tampa is ranked 14th in the country in caused turnovers per game (9.67).
