Men’s Lacrosse Set to Take on MIT Tuesday Night
TAMPA, Fla. - The men's lacrosse team will host Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tuesday night at Pepin Stadium at 7 p.m. It will be the second ever meeting between the two schools, with Tampa winning last year's meeting 9-5.
Tampa comes into this game 6-4, after defeating Wheeling Jesuit 8-7 last Saturday in Charlotte, N.C. The Spartans are led by Greg Griffo, Joey McMahan, and Kyle Hemrick. Griffo leads the Spartans with 19 goals and 22 points, while McMahan has dished out a team-high 12 assists. Hemrick has tallied 17 points this season. Marty Heyn and Larry Gress are tied for the team lead with 16 caused turnovers apiece. Joseph Fiorucci has made 72 saves so far this season and has a .497 save percentage.
MIT comes into tomorrow game 1-3 record after defeating Gordon 12-5 last Saturday. The Engineers are led by Chris Cook, Peter Orrson, and Elliot Sykora. Cook and Orrson are tied for the team lead with six points, while Sykora has tallied 17 ground balls. Goalie Christopher Rullan has made 61 saves this season, while picking up 36 ground balls.
In last year's game, the Spartans struck first as James McAuliffe and M.J. Lorenzo scored back-to-back goals to give Tampa a 2-0 lead. MIT scored four out of the next six goals to tie the game 4-4 with 3:50 remaining in the first half. Kevin Castle and Ryan Becker each netted a goal before halftime to give Tampa a 6-4 lead. MIT scored the first goal of the second half to cut the lead to 6-5. The Spartans responded scoring three straight goals for the 9-5 final.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5. Children 13 and under are free. UT students, faculty and staff are admitted free with a valid Spartan ID.
