Men’s Lacrosse Takes on Florida Tech in DSC Match Up
TAMPA, Fla - The University of Tampa men's lacrosse team will host Deep South Conference opponent Florida Tech Wednesday night at 7 p.m., at Pepin Stadium. It will be the second ever meeting between the two schools and the first time the Panthers are traveling to Tampa.
Tampa won last year's meeting 9-2. This is the second year of men's lacrosse for both programs.
Tampa comes into this game 1-1, after falling to Limestone 17-5 in the home opener last week. The Spartans are led by Joey McMahan, Nick Ferreiro, and Greg Griffo. McMahan led the Spartans with four goals and eight points, while Ferreiro and Griffo have netted four goals apiece. Goalie Joseph Fiorucci has made 14 saves so far this season.
Florida Tech comes into tomorrow game 2-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Panthers have posted conference wins over Saint Leo and Rollins this season. Florida Tech is led by midfielders Brian Bacarella and Alex Carlson, and defender Alex Cummins. Bacarella leads the Panthers with six goals and ten points, while Carlson has netted three goals and dished out five assist. Cummings leads the Panthers defense with 12 ground balls. Goalie Eric Biller has made 20 saves in the two wins.
In last year's game, the Spartans struck first as Griffo netted a goal a goal to give Tampa a 1-0 lead after the first quarter. Three different Spartans each netted a goal in the second to extend Tampa's lead to 4-0 with 8:54 remaining. Danny Channell's goal put the Panthers on the board and cut the lead to 4-1 at the break. Tampa responded in the third quarter as Griffo found Jonathan Franzese for the goal. After the two teams traded goals, the Spartans would score three unanswered for the 9-2 final.
Tickets will be available at the gate for $5. Children 13 and under are free. UT students, faculty and staff are admitted free with a valid Spartan ID.
