Deep Lineup Carries Tampa Men Over Ranked Field
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's golf team competed against one of the region's strongest fields, finishing T‑9 (+17) at the Shark Invitational, held March 23–24 at Grande Oaks Golf Club.
The Spartans recorded a three‑round total of 869 (285–289–295) on the 6,750‑yard, par‑71 layout, closing play tied with Palm Beach Atlantic.
The three‑round event featured 15 teams, including nationally ranked Florida Southern (#4), Nova Southeastern (#15), Barry (#16), Flagler (#27), Saint Leo (#19), Rollins (#23), Eastern Florida State (#8), Lynn (#28), and Eckerd (#44), making it one of the most competitive regular‑season events of the spring.
Gustin Opens Strong to Lead Tampa
Carl Gustin delivered Tampa's top individual finish, placing T26 at +2 (68–70–77). Gustin opened the tournament with a 3‑under 68, positioning himself near the top of the leaderboard early and anchoring the Spartans through the opening rounds.
Hurtado Closes Strong for Spartans
Martin Hurtado produced Tampa's lowest score of the final round, carding an even‑par 72 to finish T44 at +6 (74–73–72). His closing effort helped stabilize Tampa's team total on a demanding final day.
