HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Embry-Riddle won the tipoff, but Trent Scott quickly recorded a steal in his first start as a Spartan. Scott was first on the board for Tampa with a free throw. Both teams applied early defensive pressure. B.J. Schaeffer added to Tampa's early lead at the charity stripe, while Justin Taylor contributed with a layup and a pair of 3-pointers.
The pace picked up, but defensive plays and steals from Ian Higdon and Trey Lane kept Tampa ahead. Lane added a pair of threes, and Ryan Blount and Scott battled on the glass for key rebounds. The Eagles found some offensive rhythm late in the half, but Higdon's tip-in at the buzzer helped Tampa take a 55-40 lead into the break.
Second Half
Tampa started the second half at the free-throw line with Blount converting. Embry-Riddle continued to push offensively, but Schaeffer's work in the paint helped maintain and extend the Spartans' lead. Trey Lane reached 30 points and kept firing from beyond the arc, finishing with a career-high 44 points and setting the program record for most made 3s in a single game. Tampa secured a 20-point victory over the Eagles, 107-87.
