Blount's Double-Double leads Spartans past Mayaguez in 94-62 Victory
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's basketball team delivered a commanding performance Friday evening, rolling past P.R.-Mayaguez in a 94–62 non-conference victory inside the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Tampa came out firing, pushing the pace from the opening tip and overwhelming Mayaguez with transition scoring and relentless pressure. The Spartans exploded for 44 first-half points, showcasing efficient ball movement and a steady interior attack.
Behind early scoring from Ryan Blount, who set the tone with a quick jumper and later buried a three, Tampa controlled the tempo throughout the half. Camden McCormick, Ian Higdon, and B.J. Schaeffer powered Tampa's transition game, repeatedly turning defensive stops into fast-break opportunities.
Defensively, the Spartans forced seven turnovers in the opening period and dominated the glass with a 27–19 rebounding advantage, creating numerous second-chance opportunities.
Holding a 44–28 lead at halftime, Tampa entered the locker room firmly in control.
Second Half
The Spartans maintained their offensive rhythm after the break, pouring in 50 second-half points while continuing to run the floor effectively. Tampa's depth became a major factor as all five reserves contributed to a balanced scoring effort.
Blount continued his standout performance, knocking down shots from all three levels and controlling the boards. McCormick attacked the rim throughout the period, while Kyler Lamb, Mateusz Szpin, and Justin Taylor added energy on both ends.
Tampa's transition game was unstoppable, generating a remarkable 39 fast-break points. The Spartans closed the game on a decisive run, pushing the margin to over 30 as the defense forced Mayaguez into difficult shots and limited second-chance looks.
Tampa finished with a 56–37 rebounding edge, 52 points in the paint, and 10 points off turnovers, cruising to its highest offensive output of the season.
