Tampa Men’s Basketball Alum Tyson Leitao Signs Professional Contract in Germany
ISERLOHN, Germany — Former University of Tampa men's basketball player Tyson Leitao has signed a professional contract with the Iserlohn Kangaroos, a team competing in Germany's ProB league. The signing marks the beginning of Leitao's professional career following a successful tenure with the Spartans.
Leitao, a 6-foot-8 forward from Chicago, Illinois, played four seasons at the University of Tampa. During his final season, he started 27 of 28 games and averaged 12.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. He shot 44.6 percent from the field and 37 percent from three-point range. He recorded three games with 20 or more points, including a career-high 29-point performance against Lynn University.
Over the course of his collegiate career, Leitao appeared in 77 games and started in 76. He consistently ranked among the Sunshine State Conference leaders in rebounding and blocked shots. In his senior year, he finished fourth in the conference in rebounding and 16th in blocked shots. He also earned recognition for his academic performance as a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honor Society for student-athletes.
Leitao joins the Iserlohn Kangaroos as a key addition to their frontcourt rotation. Head coach Toni Prostran described him as a physically dominant player with strong game awareness and a team-first mentality. Leitao is expected to contribute immediately on both ends of the court.
"I'm incredibly grateful and excited to sign my first professional contract with the Iserlohn Kangaroos," Leitao said. "This is a dream come true, and I'm ready to give everything I have to help the team succeed. I can't wait to compete and grow in this new chapter of my career."
