Spartans No Match Against Sharp Shooting Sharks
TAMPA, Fla.-The University of Tampa men's basketball team fell to Nova Southeastern by a score of 65-94 Saturday afternoon in the Bob Martinez Athletic Center.
With the loss the Spartans stumble to 11-6 on the year and 4-4 in SSC action, the Sharks improve to 7-11 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
The Spartans did not start on the right foot as they were behind at halftime 52-26. Nova caught fire shooting 63 percent from the field including 8-for-13 behind the arc. The Sharks were unstoppable for the entirety of the half, making it difficult for the Spartans to make a comeback.
Tampa's offense picked up in the second half scoring 39 points and shot 44 percent in the half. However, Nova did not slow down shooting the ball, shooting 16-of-25 from behind the three-point line for the game.
Nova had six players in double figures led by guard Maurice Fuller, who led the team with 17 points. The Sharks could not miss from the field, as they shot 62 percent from the field and 64 percent from the three-point line for the game.
Da'Markco Foster led the Spartans with 29 points and eight rebounds for the game.Eric Moraes also contributed 11 points, shooting a perfect five-for-five from the field.Guard Jordan Davis added 11 points as well.
The Spartans will host Barry University at the Bob Martinez Athletic Center this Saturday. UT fell to the Buccaneers earlier in the season 71-73 in Miami. Tampa owns a 29-20 all-time record versus Barry.
Tickets are available at the gate for $5. Children 12-and-under will be admitted free. UT faculty, staff and students are admitted free when displaying a valid Spartan ID card.
