Rashad Callaway Earns First-Team All-Region Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the NABC Division II All-District teams and coaches, recognizing the best men's collegiate basketball student-athletes and coaches in the division. The University of Tampa's Rashad Callaway was among the South Region performers as a first-team choice.
The teams' were selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC as these student-athletes represent the finest basketball players across America. The 88 student-athletes, from eight districts, are now eligible for the State Farm® Coaches' Division II All-America teams, selected by the NABC.
Also a first team all-Sunshine State Conference and second-team Daktronics all-South Region performer, the award marks the third time that Callaway has been an all-South Region member.
Leading his team to an overall record of 22-7, the guard closed out his senior year marking the best start in program history to begin the year 16-0. The Bayonne, N.J., native led the team in scoring producing a spectacular 19.1 points per game while also dishing out a team-high and SSC-best 166 assists on the year.
A catalyst on the defensive end as well, Callaway picked up a team-high 58 steals in the season while attempting a total of 207 free throws and converting 82.1 of them to finish out the year. He also totaled three double-doubles as a senior to finish his career with seven double-doubles.
Callaway will leave UT while ranking in the program's top-10 in 17 career record categories. Among those are points (5th, 1,992), scoring average (6th, 17.5), field goals made (7th, 604), field goals attempted (3rd, 1,586), 3-point FG made (2nd, 236), 3-point FG attempted (2nd, 682), 3-point FG percentage (10th, .346), free throws made (2nd, 548), free throws attempted (2nd, 712), free throw percentage (10th, .770), assists (2nd, 590), assist average (2nd, 5.2), steals (4th, 203), steals average (6th, 1.8), games started (7th, 114), minutes (4th, 3,916) and minutes average (1st, 34.4).
