NCBWA Names Jhoander Irigoyen as Region Player of the Week

LAKELAND, Fla. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has announced the South Region Player of the Week as Tampa's Jhoander Irigoyen and the NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week as Delta State's Mason Shropshire.

 

Irigoyen led the Spartans to a series victory over Eckerd to help Tampa clinch the 2026 SSC Championship. He batted .727 (8-for-11) with 7 runs scored, 8 runs batted in, and 4 home runs with an .800 on-base percentage. He opened the series with a historic performance, going 5-for-5 with 4 runs scored, 5 RBI, and 3 home runs, accounting for one of the top single-game outputs in program history. This is his second weekly award of the season.

 

Stropshire was credited with a 7-1 win as Delta State eliminated top-seeded West Alabama in the GSC tournament. The right-hander had a scoreless no-hitter through 7.2 innings, exiting with eight strikeouts, allowing one run on one hit, and four walks. As a result of his impressive performance, Stropshire was named to the GSC all-tournament team.

 

Irigoyen and Strophsire move on to the NCBWA National Player of the Week ballot to be announced on Thursday, May 7.
