Satin Goes Distance as No. 5 Tampa Opens SSC Series With Win at Rollins
WINTER PARK, Fla. — Behind a complete‑game performance from Robert Satin, the No. 5 University of Tampa baseball team opened its Sunshine State Conference series at No. 10 Rollins with a 6–1 victory Friday afternoon at Alfond Stadium.
The Spartans improved to 31–7 overall and 17–2 in SSC play, backing Satin with a four‑run third inning and steady production throughout the lineup to take the series opener on the road.
How It Happened
Tampa broke through in the third inning, taking advantage of a Rollins error before stringing together timely hits. Gunnett Carlson drove in a run with a single, and Walker Vanecek followed with a two‑run home run to left‑center to give the Spartans a 4–0 lead.
Rollins answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly, but Tampa responded quickly. In the fifth, Vanecek doubled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Javi Soto, pushing the lead to 5–1.
The Spartans added insurance in the ninth when Carlson singled home Jake Books, extending the margin back to five. That was more than enough support for Robert Satin, who worked efficiently and confidently throughout the afternoon.
Satin retired the final nine batters he faced and closed out the game himself, recording the first complete game of his collegiate career while holding Rollins to one run on eight hits.
