TAMPA, Fla. — The No. 3 University of Tampa baseball team rolled to a pair of run‑rule victories over Davenport on Saturday at Tampa Baseball Field, winning 17–3 in the opener and 11–1 in the nightcap.
The Spartans improved to 19–3 overall, erupting for 28 runs on 30 hits across the two games while receiving strong starting pitching and depth contributions throughout the lineup.
Tampa scored early and often in both contests, using big innings to put each game away well before the final frame.
Game 1: Tampa 17, Davenport 3 (7 innings)
Tampa erased an early three‑run deficit with a dominant offensive response, scoring four runs in the second, four more in the third, and five in the fourth to pull away for a 17–3 run‑rule victory.
After Davenport plated three in the first, the Spartans answered immediately. Gunnett Carlson, Jordan Evans, Jhoander Irigoyen, and Walker Vanecek each drew RBI walks in the second to tie the game before Tampa took control in the third. Brayden Woodburn lifted a sacrifice fly, Carlson crushed a two‑run homer, and Irigoyen followed with an RBI double to push the lead to 8–3.
