UT Baseball Selected to 16th Straight NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Tampa baseball team has been selected to its 16th consecutive NCAA Division II South Regional, which will include a total of six teams.
Gulf South Conference champion University of West Alabama has been chosen as the host of the double-elimination tourney. The tournament, which will be held in Livingston, Ala., will begin Thursday and end with Sunday's regional title game(s).
The region will feature several national powers as four of the last 10 NCAA II national champions will be among the field. Tampa won the 2006, 2007 and 2013 championships as fellow Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn University won in 2009.
Receiving automatic bids for the tournament are Albany State University, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) winners, UWA and Nova Southeastern University from the Sunshine State Conference.
Top-seeded UWA, is followed by No. 2 Nova Southeastern, No. 3 Tampa, No. 4 Florida Tech, No. 5 Lynn and No. 6 Albany State.
The University of Tampa will enter postseason play with an overall record of 35-13 as the Spartans finished SSC play with a 16-8 record.
This marks the 16th straight NCAA tournament appearance for Tampa, as head coach Joe Urso has advanced to the tourney in each of his 15 seasons at the helm.
