Spartans Set Pace With 25-3 Win
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 3 University of Tampa baseball team routed Pace University by a score of 25-3. The Spartans improve to 8-2 on their 2013 season while the Setters drop their first game and start their campaign 0-1.
The Tampa offense exploded for 25 runs off 17 hits in the romping. First baseman Jake Schrader hit 3-for-4 with seven RBI. All seven runs came off of his two homers, including a grand slam in the fifth frame. Third baseman Quinn Pippin tallied a home run of his own, a solo shot to right field in the seventh inning.
Six Spartan batters had multiple hits on the day as shortstop Jacob Tillotson hit 2-for-3 with three RBI. Infielders Tyler Ding and Sean O'Brien each notched multiple hits in the contest as outfielder Connor Obrochta crossed the plate twice for his two-hit showing.
Starter Eric Luksis was credited with the win, moving to 2-0 on the season. The lefty tossed five complete innings, allowing four hits and striking out three Setters. Pace pitcher Neil Pezzullo had the loss, giving up 8 earned runs, and surrendering 6 hits.
