Beach Volleyball Falls to TCU and USF at Seminole Beach Bash
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Tampa dropped two matches on Saturday at Seminole Beach Bash.
The University of Tampa beach volleyball team faced a tough test on Friday morning, falling 3-0 to No. 2 Texas Christian University at the FSU Beach Volleyball Courts.
Competing against one of the nation's premier programs, the Spartans battled across all five flights, with two matches going unfinished after TCU secured the clinching point.
TCU opened the scoring at the No. 4 position, where Elea Beutel and Adria Serrano Ferro defeated Kaelyn Fredette-Huffman and Hailey Peterson in straight sets, 21-13, 21-13.
At the No. 1 slot, Nevaeh Wolfe and Hailey Wolfe squared off against Natalie Glenn and Sofia Izuzquiza. Despite strong defensive stretches and extended rallies, the Horned Frogs claimed the point with a 21-12, 21-14 victory.
The dual was clinched at the No. 5 spot as Stacy Reeves and Anhelina Khmil topped the Spartans in straight sets, 21-10, 21-12.
Play continued in the remaining flights, though both contests went unfinished. At No. 2, Lauren Duke and Jordan Berglin fell 21-12, 21-14. Tess Schrenger and Angel Williams were locked in a competitive battle at No. 3 before the match was halted, trailing 21-17, 15-7.
Madison Hankins and Lauren Cook were also competing at No. 5 when play concluded early, dropping the opening sets 21-12, 15-9.
The Spartans battled across all five flights, with two matches going unfinished after the Bulls secured the three points needed to clinch the dual.
South Florida struck first at the No. 2 position, where Julia Panko and Cornelia Crudu defeated Duke and Berglin in straight sets, 21-12, 21-12.
At No. 3, Morgan Anderson and Abigail Lagemann extended the Bulls' lead with a 21-15, 21-18 win over Fredette-Huffman and Peterson. The Spartans kept the second set tight, fighting off multiple runs before USF closed it out late.
The dual was clinched at the No. 5 spot as Tereza Lajkebova and Kate Stewart topped Hankins and Cook, 21-14, 21-13.
Play continued on the remaining courts. At No. 1, the Wolfe's were locked in a competitive battle with Zoey Mitchell and Josephine Sek. The Spartans edged a thrilling opening set, 24-22, and led 17-13 in the second before the match was halted.
Schrenger and Williams also split sets at No. 4, dropping the first 21-18 before responding with a 21-17 second-set victory. The pair trailed 1-0 in the third when play was stopped.
