Spartans Break In To Women's Basketball Top-25

DURANGO, Colo. - Winners of four consecutive games, the University of Tampa women's basketball team has entered the national top-25 as the Spartans are No. 23 in the latest D2SIDA NCAA Division II poll.

The 12-2 Spartans are the lone Sunshine State Conference team in the rankings, as the Spartans are also tabbed at No. 3 in the South Region. Tampa joins No. 8 Union (Tenn.) University and No. 13 University of North Alabama as regional teams in the national rankings. Fellow SSC opponent Barry University is listed as receiving votes in the poll.

Tampa currently sits atop the SSC standings with Barry and Florida Southern at 5-2 in league play. UT has outscored its opponents by over 10 points per game this season, shooting 30.1 percent from 3-point range. A balanced scoring effort includes three Spartans in double figures, with Staja Tyghter (11.9), Karma Jeremie (11.6) and Rachel Warden (10.6).

UT returns to action on Wednesday at Winter Park against Rollins College at 5:30 p.m.

This marks the 36th week for the Spartans in the national top-25, and the first since opening the 2015-16 season at No. 22. This is the 10th season where Tampa has been ranked, with nine coming under current head coach Tom Jessee.
