Tampa Set to Host PBA Sailfish

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's basketball team will host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday, January 6th. The women will take the court at 2:00 pm.  

The Matchup: University of Tampa (11-2, 4-2 SSC) vs. Palm Beach Atlantic University (2-11, 1-6 SSC)

Date/Time: Saturday, January 6th at 2:00 pm.

Last Time Out: The Spartans traveled to Daytona Beach to take on the Embry-Riddle Eagles, and came out on top, defeating the Eagles by a 53-35 margin. Staja Tyghter finished the game with 12 points and a team-leading 17 rebounds, marking a new career high. Her three steals were also a team high. Emily Eshoo led Tampa in scoring with 13 points off the bench. She connected on three from long-range and 5-for-7 from the field. Three Spartans scored in double figures as Rachel Warden pitched in 11 points. Karma Jeremie had double-digit rebounds with 10 as she also netted eight points. She also led all Spartans with six assists.

About the Spartans: The Spartans are led offensively by Tyghter who is averaging 12.2 points per game. She is followed by junior Jeremie and sophomore Warden with 11.6 and 9.5. As a team, the Spartans are averaging 65.2 points per game while shooting 46.2 percent from the field. The Spartans are also only allowing 54.7 points per game beating most of their opponents by a margin of at least 10+ points.

About the Sailfish: Hannah Grim leads PBA with 229 points averaging 19.1 per game. She is followed by Nkiru Anyagaligbo who is averaging 7.8 points per game. As a team, the Sailfish are averaging 59.7 points per game, 37.8 rebounds per game, shooting 34.7 percent from the field and 71.9 from the free throw line. 

Series History: The Spartans lead the all-time series record over PBA with a 20-3 record. 

Tickets: Tickets for are $5 for adults, senior citizens, and coaches. Children under 12 will be admitted free. UT students, faculty and staff will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
