No. 21 Tampa Set to Welcome Saint Leo for Weekend Series

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 21 University of Tampa (7-3, 1-2 SSC) softball team is set to take on Sunshine State Conference foe Saint Leo University (10-7, 0-0 SSC) for a weekend series.

The first game of the series is set for 6 p.m., on Friday evening at Naimoli Family Field, with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., on Saturday.

The all-time record for Tampa against Saint Leo is 40-50. They last met in the 2013 NCAA South Regional, and the Spartans were victorious by a score of 8-0 in Valdosta, Ga.

UT’s pitching has been stellar with Julia Morrow and Kayla Cox leading the way. Morrow is now 5-1 on the year with a 0.24 ERA. She has amassed 52 strikeouts in 29.1 innings while hurling two shutouts, including a one-hitter against Michigan-Dearborn. Cox has followed suit with a 2-2 record and 0.74 ERA.  The senior has tossed one shutout through 38.1 innings while striking out 51.

The offense will look for continued production from the top of the lineup.  Kandi Kuder and Meagan Burke are both hitting over .400. Kuder has a team-leading four steals, five RBI and 13 hits, while Burke has four RBI and 12 hits.  Bre Setree has also contributed with nine hits while batting .300.

Saint Leo enters the matchup led by Cassie Boggs and Sarah Steiner. Boggs has a team-high 16 RBI and is hitting .288 on the season, while Steiner sports a 5-4 record with team-leading 40 strikeouts and a 2.70 ERA.
