No. 20 Spartans Ease Past Mocs With SSC Title

TAMPA, Fla. – No. 20 The University of Tampa (21- 5, 14-2 SSC) overpowered the Florida Southern Moccasins (7-18, SSC 2-13) 69-45 at the Bob Martinez Athletic Center Wednesday night. 

Scoring the first three baskets and shooting 75 percent from the field, Tampa only allowed Florida Southern to shoot 18 percent from the field, with both seniors Keke Jones and Illyssa Vivo scoring nine- points apiece.

Tampa’s largest lead in the first half with 1:23 minutes marked the home team up by 23 points. Taylor McVey had six rebounds, along with four rebounds apiece from Juliana Cavallaro and Jones ending the half with Tampa ahead 33-12.

The Spartans came into the second half with the same momentum ending the game with their largest lead of 26 points.  Scoring 46 points in the paint the Spartans maintained their lead throughout the entirety of the game.

Vivo scored a game high of 16 points and six assists. Taylor McVey led the team in rebounds with nine at the end of the game.

The Spartans will participate as the No.1 seed next week in the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Championships, after winning the regular season title. Tampa also sits in first place in the south region.
