Seawolves No Match for the SpartansNovember 22, 2013
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The University of Tampa women’s basketball team traveled to Northern California to participate in the Elsie Darling Classic Tournament. The Spartans defeated Sonoma State University 62-44 Friday evening.
The first half was filled with great ball movement and defensive strategies for the Spartans. The team held the Seawolves to 20 percent shooting from the field, along with several great second chance point efforts.
Ending the first half, Taylor McVey led all scorers with 12 points, while Keke Jones recorded nine rebounds.
Spartans came out with the same energy they possessed in the first half. It was evident that Tampa had control of the contest, holding the Seawolves to under 30 percent shooting from the field.
McVey finished the game with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Jones recorded eight points and 13 rebounds. Ellen Nurmi contributed 12 points.
Tampa will conclude their road trip with a game against No. 9 Chico State. This will be the first meeting between the two teams. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. ET
