Spartans Defeat Conference Opponent in Home Opener

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s swimming team opened its home slate with a 125-75 victory over Sunshine State Conference opponent Lynn University at the UT Aquatics Center. The Spartan men competed in time trials as Lynn does not sport a men’s squad.

The meet featured 11 events for the women, with UT taking the first three spots in five of the races.

Taking first-place honors in individual races for Tampa were Erin Plachy in the 50 Free (24.37), Alex Hipolito in the 200 IM (2:14.89), Catherine Parker in the 200 Fly (2:09.77) and Heather Glenday in the 500 Free (5;12.65).

Tampa also solidified its advantage with a first-place showing and each of the top three spots in the final race of the day, the 200 Free Relay. The team of Plachy, Marisa Barton, Allison Noe and Glenday were the first to finish, doing so with a time of 1:40.68.

The Spartan men and women return to the pool on Saturday, as they play host to powerhouse and annual opponent Indian River State College. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. UT will offer a live broadcast through TampaSpartans.tv.
