Selkridge Scorches Opposition in Double-Header SweepOctober 20, 2012
TAMPA, Fla. – A torrid performance from senior Danielle Selkridge gave the No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team a pair of straight-set sweeps against the University of West Georgia and Christian Brothers University.
The Spartans improve to 19-3 on the season while the UWG Wolves drop to a 10-13 mark. The CBU Buccaneers fall to 16-7 on the loss, as Selkridge plastered 25 kills against both squads at an astounding .774 attack percentage.
The Tortola, Virgin Islands native ascended from a .421 attack percentage to a .472 clip after a dominating week by the middle hitter.
Junior Holly Reschke posted 26 kills on the day, also swinging at a blistering .490 hitting mark in the final day of the Red Elephant Cafe South Region Crossover.
Libero Frances Cardenas and Sloane Bâby held the defensive tempo as the tandem tallied 18 and 17 digs respectively. Sophomore Meagan Burke totaled eight blocks between the two matches and tendered 14 kills.
Tampa won the first match against West Georgia (25-19, 25-22, 25-22) with double-digit efforts from Burke, Reschke and Selkridge. Setter Kahley Patrick spun a 40 assist showing with Bâby leading the defense with 10 digs. Outside hitter Jessica Yingling swung a 9-for-16 game at a .375 clip.
The Spartans trounced Christian Brothers in three quick sets (25-11, 25-13, 25-18) to build the Tampa momentum. Freshman Marissa Lisenbee grounded seven attacks in ten chances to complement Selkridge and Reschke’s 12 and 14 kill performances.
Burke picked up seven of her eight blocks in the second match of the day while consistent Cardenas dug out another nine attacks.
The offense combined for a scorching .547 team attack percentage while the defense limited CBU to a meager .147.
Tampa returns to action Tuesday, to face Florida Tech in an Oct. 23rd matchup, game time set for a 7 p.m. start. Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be provided through www.tampaspartans.tv.
