Tampa Freshmen Sweep SSC Player of the Week Honors

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Tampa's Cici Gonzalez and Beate Jäeckel have been selected Sunshine State Conference Women's Soccer Players of the Week presented by VALIC.

Gonzalez, a freshman forward from Lutz, Fla., tallied a goal in each of the No. 22 Spartans' conference wins last week. In a 2-1 victory at Barry, Gonzalez netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 20th minute. In a 4-1 decision over Florida Tech, she scored UT's second goal in the 21st minute of action.

Jäeckel, a freshman defender from Munich, Germany, anchored a Spartan defense that held its opponents to a combined five shots on goal in a pair of conference victories. In a 2-1 win at Barry, Jäeckel and her teammates held the Buccaneers to just two shots on frame. The unit was nearly as stingy in a 4-1 victory versus Florida Tech, limiting the Panthers to three shots on goal.
