Tampa Returns to Top-Five in Latest National PollOctober 2, 2012
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Tampa volleyball team has moved up two spots and now occupies the No. 5 spot in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association of America (AVCA) national poll.
The University of Nebraska in Kearney remains number one for the fourth consecutive week, garnering 31 first-place votes as the lone undefeated team in the top-25. Southwest Minnesota State, Minnesota-Duluth, Washburn and Tampa round out the remaining teams in the top-five. Concordia-St. Paul is sixth, and received the other first-place vote.
The Spartans represent the only Sunshine State Conference program ranked in the top 25. NCAA South Region foe West Florida comes in at No. 23 as Palm Beach Atlantic is receiving votes. 2012 opponents West Texas A&M (T-7), Central Missouri (T-7), Indianapolis (9), Colorado School of Mines (15) and Regis (20) are all ranked, as West Florida also appears on the Spartan schedule for two matches.
Head coach Chris Catanach has coached his Spartan squad to 222 consecutive weeks in the top-25, marking the second-longest active streak in the nation to Central Missouri.
Currently riding a five-match winning streak, the 11-2 Spartans now sit atop the SSC leaderboard as the lone undefeated team in league play. Tampa heads to south Florida for a pair of weekend matches, versus Lynn and Nova Southeastern on Friday and Saturday respectively.

Among NCAA national leaders, reigning SSC and South Region Player of the Year Danielle Selkridge is fourth in hitting percentage at .423 as her setter, Kahley Patrick, is 20th in assists per set at 10.89.
As a team, the Spartans rank among national leaders in several categories. Catanach’s squad is 12th in assists per set (13.04), 10th in digs per set (17.15), sixth in hitting percentage (.273) and 11th in kills per set (14.2).
