TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s soccer team (5-3-1, 2-2 SSC) defeated No. 16 Rollins College (4-3-2, 0-2-1 SSC) by a one goal margin on Saturday night. The win marks Tampa’s second Sunshine State Conference victory.
The score remained even at zero until the 41 minute mark. A ball off the foot of Tampa’s senior Brian Fekete found the head of fellow defender Andrew Clare. Clare headed the ball past Rollins goalkeeper and into the bottom right corner of the net.
The Spartans led the Tars by one at the half.
The Spartans remained strong against the Tars despite their greatest effort. Rollins recorded 15 shots in the second half, yet none resulted in a goal. Both Tampa and Rollins registered 19 shots each throughout the match.
Tyler Blackwood led the Spartans with five shots and two shots on goal. The Tar’s Rob Crowley led with four shots and two shots on goal.
Spartan goalkeeper David Niepel logged eight saves and his fifth win of the season.
