Soccer SSC Schedule Opens Up Against Eckerd on Saturday

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa No. 7 men’s and No. 16 women’s soccer teams are set to take on Eckerd College on Saturday beginning with the men at 5:30 p.m., followed by the women at 8 p.m., at Pepin Stadium in the Sunshine State Conference opener.

The men’s soccer team carries a record of 3-0-1 into Saturday’s game, and an all-time record against Eckerd of 29-6. Their last game against Eckerd resulted in a 1-0 loss at Eckerd College on Oct. 17 in the 2011 season. 

The Spartan men last played on Wednesday against Florida Tech, which resulted in a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods.

UT men’s soccer is led by Tyler Blackwood, whom leads the team with four goals so far in the 2012 season. Blackwood scored the lone goal for UT on Wednesday against Florida Tech.

The women’s team comes into Saturday’s game with a record of 4-2, and an all-time record of 13-3 against Eckerd. Their last game against Eckerd resulted in a 1-0 win on Oct. 21 at Eckerd College in the 2011 season.

The Spartan women lost their last game at Florida Tech by a score of 1-0, which broke a three game win streak.

UT women are led by forward Lauren Moore, whom broke the single game goal record with 5 goals against Florida Memorial last week. Moore leads the team with nine overall goals, and has also chipped in one assist this season.

The Pepin Stadium gates will open at 4:30 p.m., for both games.  Tickets will be available for $5 (adults) and $3 (students and senior citizens. UT students and faculty/staff will be admitted free with a valid ID.
