Shannon Walisch Earns Weekly SSC Award

ORLANDO, Fla. – University of Tampa women’s soccer defender Shannon Walisch has been named the VALIC Sunshine State Conference Defensive Players of the Week, as announced Tuesday by league commissioner Jay Jones.

Walisch, a junior from Palm Harbor, Fla., anchored a tough Spartan defense in a pair of season-opening matches in Columbus, Ga. In a 3-1 victory over Anderson, Walisch and the Tampa defense allowed just four shots on goal. No. 8 UT then limited host and No. 22 Columbus State to a single shot on goal in a 1-0 setback. The Cougars' lone goal came on a free kick. Walisch played all 180 minutes of the two contests.
