TAMPA, Fla. – With the start of the 2012 season around the corner, the University of Tampa welcomes three teams for the start of fall practice. Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams and the volleyball program have reported, as workouts start on Monday.
The women’s soccer team, ranked No. 8 in the nation in the preseason NSCAA poll, welcomes back 12 letterwinners, including five starters from 2011. Head coach Gerry Lucey’s program is coming off a 16-6-2 season where his Spartans won the Sunshine State Conference tournament and advanced to the national quarterfinals.
Volleyball carries high hopes for the upcoming season, as it advanced to the national semifinals in 2011. Looking for its eighth consecutive Sunshine State Conference championship, welcomes back Sunshine State Conference and South Region Player of the Year Danielle Selkridge, who led the nation in hitting percentage. Selkridge is among four starters who return this season.
The men’s soccer team returns seven starters from a 2011 team that defeated national finalist Lynn in SSC action. Among the returners for head coach Adrian Bush are his entire defensive unit and goalkeeper.
