Zach Gawrych Helps Lucky Fan Win a New Car

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – University of Tampa baseball player Zach Gawrych, currently playing for the Fayetteville Swampdogs of the Coastal Plains League, recently helped a local fan win a new car.

Gawrych secured $15,000 towards a Nissan car for Wendy Anderson when he stole home in a game against the Asheboro Copperheads. Anderson used the money for a 2012 Nissan Versa. The game also featured fireworks as it was played on July 3.

While playing with fellow Spartan teammates Tyler Ding and Connor Obrochta, Gawrych hit over .300 in the first half of the season. The junior outfielder from Tampa also leads the league in runs scored and has 16 stolen bases.

Ding has also enjoyed recent success, as his average has climbed near .300 while playing against top competition.

Gawrych is coming off a sophomore season where he led all Spartans with a .365 batting average. He also turned in a team-leading four triples while posting a perfect fielding percentage as a full-time outfielder.
