Kendra Bishop Enjoys Summer Success on Golf CourseAugust 14, 2012
After recently completing her freshman season as the top golfer for the University of Tampa women’s team, Kendra Bishop is home for the summer in Niagara Falls, Ontario. While working at her home course in the pro shop, Bishop has also played competitive golf this summer.
A member of a collegiate tour in the Michigan and Ohio area, Bishop has been part of the Taylormade-Adidas Collegiate Golf Series.
Among the top-notch courses that Bishop has experienced is Firestone, where she placed fifth while shooting rounds of 79 and 72. Bishop also played in two more events, coming in fourth and sixth against predominantly NCAA Division I players.
Locally, she earned a spot on the Niagara District Team to represent at the provincial championship, where she shot a 73. In another tournament, the professional Canadian Tour Event in her hometown, Bishop made the cut and shot a final round 78.
In her fifth tournament of the summer, she played at the Women's Western Amateur Championship in Michigan, playing two qualifying rounds shooting in the 80's. Though she did not advance to the championship flight of matches, Bishop won her flight in match-play. The wins were 4&3, 5&3, 4&3 and 8&6, shooting 2 over for a total of 57 holes.
In the final two events of the Taylormade-Adidas Collegiate Tour, Bishop played at Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. She placed third at both 36-hole tournaments (one day events), shooting 80,73 at Michigan State and 80,78 at Michigan. With the top finishes, she ended up winning Player of the Year beating out over 40 top-ranked NCAA Division I student-athletes.
In the first official season of competition for the UT women’s golf team, Bishop led the squad as a freshman while playing in eight tournaments, including the 2012 Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championships. In 19 rounds, the freshman averaged 81.9 with a low round of 76. She also turned in two top-five finishes while placing in the top-15 a total of three times.
