Spartan Rowers Open Spring Season at Stetson SprintsFebruary 24, 2007
DELAND, Fla. – The University of Tampa crew team kicked off the Spring season at the Stetson Sprints, which were held at Lake Beresford. The field of competition included fellow Sunshine State Conference opponent Nova Southeastern University along with the University of Florida, Stetson University, Bates College and Embry-Riddle.
The Women’s Varsity 2 team of Allison Zimmerman and Lauren Detlefsen turned in a first-place finish after crossing the finish line with a time of 6:00. Nova Southeastern, Bates and Stetson all finished behind the Spartan pair.
The Women’s Novice 4 team finished with a time of 6:21.2, which was third. The team included Jeanette Nicewinter, Samantha Webb, Mauri Martin and Jacqui Supplee.
The Spartan Women’s Varsity 4 team of Zimmerman, Detlefsen, Jodi Steelman and Theresa Osborne placed fourth in their respective event after a time of 6:12.6.
UT also competed in the Varsity 8, where it finished fifth with a time of 5:40.6. Members of the Spartan Varsity 8 were Zimmerman, Detlefsen, Osborne, Steelman, Webb, Nicewinter, Martin and Supplee.
The Spartans next race will be the Augusta Invitational in Aiken, S.C., on March 17.
