Spartans Represented on Commissioner's Honor Roll

WINTER PARK, Fla. - A total of 634 student-athletes were named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Spring 2010 semester, announced Wednesday by Commissioner Jay Jones. Ninety-six students carried a perfect 4.00 GPA for the semester.

The University of Tampa had 76 student-athletes selected from men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, golf, tennis, softball, baseball and rowing on the list. Among the 76 student-athletes to earn recognition, nine earned a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester.

Rowing team members Samantha Burns, Melissa Ciesielski, Caitlyn Guthrie and Dana Schwarz earned 4.0 honors. Women’s swim team members Stephanie Branham and Tiera Forsyth joined the rowers with the perfect 4.0. Mounir Benzegala, men’s basketball, Caitlyn Mitryk, women’s basketball, and Kari Walsh, softball, rounded out the Spartans earning a 4.0 GPA during the semester.

To be eligible for the Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00 for the spring semester.

Having won 74 national championships since the league was founded in 1975, the SSC’s student-athletes have also proven to be successful in the classrooms. The NCAA announced earlier this year that the Sunshine State Conference led all 22 Division II conferences with an Academic Success Rate of 85 percent.
