UT Assistant Coach Will Pitch To Carlos Pena At MLB Home Run Derby

ST. LOUIS – University of Tampa assistant baseball coach Scott McNulty will pitch to Tampa Bay Rays slugger Carlos Pena at Monday’s 2009 State Farm Home Run Derby at Busch Stadium.

McNulty, who finished his 12th season on the UT baseball staff, is the longest tenured coach with the program. His responsibilities have included infield and outfield instruction as well as designing and implementing the team’s physical conditioning workouts. He has been a part of three Spartan national championships, in 1998, 2006 and 2007.

“It is amazing what happens when you stick around and show up,” says McNulty. “I am extremely fortunate to have people like coach (Joe) Urso who have hooked me up with this opportunity. I am also appreciative to Carlos for allowing me to pitch to him.

The home run derby is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Monday and will be broadcasted live on ESPN and MLB.com.
